I was leading a group the other day. Folks from all walks of life. We were talking about self confidence, making a good first impression, and how to best introduce ourselves when we meet people for the first time.
We have all had the chance to sit down with a piece of paper a craft a “30 second elevator speech.” Each person took their shot at it. One in particular silenced the room. Let’s call it a walk-off home run. It was Roger, a job seeking Carpenter. He said…
” I make beautiful chairs.”
The class sat stunned. Some put their pens down. One guy said. “Wooden would’ve made it 5 damn words!” which made the group erupt in laughter.
Truly a defining moment in elevator speeches. I have never heard one better!
